In Andal's thiruppaavai pasuram 17,18,19 there's a great psychology.
How do we wake up Krishna..?
First Andal wakes him up through the mother and brother (from whom Krishna was born and with whom he played together). Then Andal wakes him up through his girlfriend.
The pasuram 18, calling nappinnai as nadagopan's marumagal (which meant sister's daughter), where krishna is referred to as her 'maithunan' (which means mama paiyan in those days) depicts nappinnai as his girlfriend, not yet married.
Then comes the pasuram 19 which talks about krishna sleeping with nappinnai . Now Andal is waking up krishna through this wife.
Krishna is the govinda, the Adi Purusha, the avyaya puruSa sAski, the eternal witness, inside all.
Body is like the cart. Mind is the horse. Our self is the driver. If our self becomes one with cart or horse, vehicle runs amok. Our self has to detach from body and mind and witness them to control them. This witness is the manifestation of that Adi Purusha. Our 'self' has to be with this witness (Adi Purusha, the govinda) in our mind to control our body and mindbreas. So we have to wake up that witness in us.
How do we wake that witness up..?
This detached witness in our self is first woken up by our mother, brother etc at first. We learn from them to introspect and control ourselves. They help us awaken that witness inside us, which could tell us we are wrong. Or they can guide us wrongly to merge our self with the mind. In either case they play the role in waking that witness inside up, at first.
Then our 'girlfriends' come. (sorry 90's kids if you couldn't get a girlfriend). They play a role in making that witness inside us to manifest more clearly (or may guide us wrongly to be run by our mind).
Then wife plays that role of awakening that witness inside (or again force us to run by our mind). 2k kids should choose their spouse (wife or husband) such that they play a role in waking that detached witness inside us. Either of the spouse should give the other, the handle to wake up that witness inside them. That's also important.
That's one of the reasons, why marriage by definition also has a 'spiritual' component rather than just a personal or social component. It's important for the modern marriages to retain this spiritual component to have a better life.
So Andal calls first mother, brother, then the girlfriend and then the wife to wake that krishna, the detached witness inside us, who helps us to live a better life, by guiding us to take right decisions, because we have a detached perspective, because our self is detached from the body and mind
